Crystal Castles II - New Album, Complete Playlist

Here is the entire play list of Crystal Castles' new album Crystal Castles II. I'm already in love with it...they definitely kept their recognizable style, but in my opinion they pushed their sound even further, bringing in new sounds and rhythms making this my favorite of the two albums. (It took my a while to compare the two objectively, though. I still remember how incredible hearing Crimewave was for the first time....)

enjoy! :)

DAMMIT, Calvin

Mr. Harris should be tried for selling out and generally being a tit. Let's do a little comparison between some of his earlier work and some of his more recent work. So he came out with I Created Disco in 2007, then more recently Ready for the Weekend in 2009. I can't believe how disappointing his new album is. Anyway, back to the comparison. Here is my favorite song from his first album, Merrymaking at My Place:

You may not love this track but I hope you can appreciate how goofy and fun it is. Anyway, he went from this lighthearted, budget sort of music to BOOM! super-produced David Guetta bullshit. I guess it only makes sense but I misjudged him! Let's complete the comparison. Here's a recent track called Flashback:

Isn't it crazy how much you agree with me? But let's not cry over this. Seriously, stop crying. At least Mr. Oizo knows what to do with these increasingly vintage-sounding Harris tracks. Listen to this disco electrotrain he fashioned out of Merrymaking at My Place:

Can we just sigh over Mr. Oizo for a minute? Remember, he's the one who graced us with this:

That flat beat can make you believe in love. Flat love. Hehheh

WOW IT'S BEEN A WHILE

OK. Sorry. Here's a new post.

First of all, here's a cool tune by Tiga. By far one of the most clever, creative remixes I've heard of Fever Ray. It's not super approachable but it'll definitely keep your attention, especially if you've heard the original. Be sure to listen to this with some bass or you'll be missing a lot...Tiga seems to really bury the low end a lot.

Now, here is a really fun band called Discovery! If you don't already know about them, the band consists of Rostam Batmanglij(of Vampire Weekend) and Wes Miles of Ra Ra Riot. I know - what a superdope combinaiton. Maybe my favorite track of theirs:

Ok. Now my friend Zoe T. who is also superdope showed me this song. This is a song by ATL's own Gucci Mane (a money machine lately) and Diploooooooo. Yes, diplooooo. Anyway, this song made me bounce so hard my neck sore. He made Gucci sound like he has great flow...which isn't always the case. (But I do love Gucci :/)

OK SO WOWOWOWO.WOOWOWWOWOwowow. I was so incredibly excited about The Knife's new project in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock. Now that the album is out, I pretty much just drew the conclusion that I need to see the play. Oh, yeah, so this album was commissioned to be the soundtrack to a play about the life of Charles Darwin. This is the first release from the album, The Colouring of Pigeons. There are soooo many great elements to this song, but sadly the vast majority of the album is less dancy and melodic than this one. I will say that Karin just kills in as usual with the vocals.

ANOTHER EXCITING THING. Hot Chip has a new album! It's called "One Life Stand" and it's out nowwwww! Well I am overall really pretty happy about it. It's a different theme than what I'm used to for Hot Chip - I first heard their Warning album, so there's a big thematic shift from electro playboys to true romantics in this new album. This song grooves and bounces all over the place, smoothly slipping along. There are some more strident, aggressive synth noises that remind me of Over and Over, for instance. In general, this track just seems more polished than what I'm used to from these guys.

Ok, so I think I'll end this post here. I have a rant about Calvin Harris to write but it's probably better off as a separate post. SORRY AGAIN. I'll try to be better about posting.

Fever Ray - Triangle Walks (Rex the Dog Remix)

I've been trolling the netz for some good Fever Ray remixes. I LIKE THIS ONE. I was so excited to see a remix by one of my favorites, Rex The Dog. He does such a great job with this song...I can't imagine a Fever Ray song being very easy to remix at all. Anyway he does SMART thing by keeping Karin's voice as a prominent instrument, as well as changing the tempo without destroying the fidelity of her distinctive voice.

Bonobo - Nightlife

Here is a lovely, original, inspiring track called Nightlife, by Bonobo. Bonobo has more incredible tracks than you can shake a stick at. Matter of fact, I don't think you could shake anything at all his great tracks. Anyway, enjoy, and be sure to check out this pro's body of work.

The Whip - Divebomb

Here is a song by The Whip, called Divebomb...LOVIN IT. I like to listen to the song as I post, that way I get more excited about it. AND I'LL USE CAPS BECAUSE I LIKE THIS A LOT. I'll post two embedded videos, the original and also a Crystal Castles remix. CC really own this remix...sounds like a brand new song. Anyway, enjoy!

La Roux

You may have already heard of La Roux..she's making quite a big splash in the pool of people who like this sort of thing. She has red hair - hence La Roux, or The Red. Anyway they are a British electropop duo influenced by 80's synth pop. Their new album La Roux fits neatly into the 80's electro obsession. I washed my car to this album and it worked beautifully...so if you're looking for a way to multi-task, get out that soap and your smallest bathing suit. I'll give you her MySpace link so you can hear her songs which can't be embedded (thanks, Universal), but I will embed REMIXES, yes, REMIXES.

In For the Kill

Bulletproof

I'm Not Your Toy (Jack Beats Remix)

I like the first and last mixes the most, but I like to provide variety. In all cases I prefer the original, so be sure to go to her MySpace page.

Black Moth Super Rainbow

Black Moth Super Rainbow! I was a little annoyed at the name at first, but then after listening to a few of their songs I'm starting to understand the need for such an odd name. They are from P-Burgh, otherwise known as Pittsburgh or Papa Burgh, or even Puzzy-B. I hope those names catch on... Anyway this distinctive noise is achieved using ANALOG instruments. Yes, ANALOG! The song I choose to present to you is called Sun Lips. Here ya goooo. I WOULD SUGGEST NOT WATCHING THIS VIDEO - JUST LISTEN. WHAT A CREEPY VIDEO WOWOW

Neon Indian

This song will LIFT YOU UP!! Higher and higher...especially if you're having a bad day. This song will take all that badness and drop-kick it into Iowa somewhere. This beat and the birds in the background could continue all day and I wouldn't even mind.

Terminally Chill

Here is another song that I am just listening to for the first time right now. Another dreamy, boroque pop tune...I feel like I'm in a commercial for anti-depressants. By the way, these guys are totally mysterious so I have nothing to tell you about them, other than I think they are from Austin. Feel free to stalk them for me plzplzplz.
